ABOUT THE ART
"You're only at home if you love yourself." – Gunnar, 13.

Reflecting a place where we can be ourselves – and the desire to create a space where others can be – all of the images were created by my kids and me at our home in Missoula, where we have grown together for the last 20 years. Working with Western Sensibility to print on textiles as well as glass, tile, and wood found at Home Resource, these combined works represent our creative lives at home, both in our backyard and in our community, and our commitment to placing creativity at the center of both.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

ERIKA PETERMAN
As a creative and professional photographer, my portfolio is diverse, capturing the tension between my deep desire for solitude and my love of people and portraits. I've had the privilege of photographing figures like U.S. Senator Jon Tester, President Joe Biden, and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, as well as exploring the natural world with images of whale sharks in Baja, arctic foxes in Iceland, and vast landscapes wherever I can find them. My backyard is my favorite place to be, and these images reflect both the light I experience daily and my deep gratitude for having a loving, creative home.

DISA DOHERTY
I started taking art classes at the ZACC when it first opened and have been creating for the last 17 years, appreciating the quiet it brings to my mind. Recently, my design studies have deepened my appreciation for creative perspectives, and I enjoy the challenge of reworking and reorganizing artistic ideas. Collage, in particular, allows me to blend my love for the revision process found in design with a more artistic approach to perspective. That said, I find joy in all art forms.

GUNNAR DOHERTY
For over a decade, I have found solace and purpose in drawing, loving every second my pencil is on the paper. Recently, drawing has become a refuge, helping me navigate dark times and challenging moments, often in ways I didn’t realize until much later. My art reflects my perception of the world – a world where many are too consumed by their own lives to look up and truly see. So often distracted, people feel threatened by the unfamiliar when they finally do look beyond themselves. Through my art, I depict the guardians of creativity, those who protect our curiosity and encourage us to step outside our comfort zones, seeking genuine connection in a world increasingly focused on screens and self-preservation.
