ABOUT THE ART
"I've rented in Missoula for eight years and have moved eight times--five of those moves occurred in the past three years. This is a collection of work made while searching for housing, but more importantly an exploration of defining what I call home. This is not a collection about the Missoula housing crisis, but a result of it all the same. This is a collection created while searching for a home. The seemingly constant shuffle of my belongings has only solidified in my mind that home is not a place of storage but a place from which to create in. With that in mind, home has been every piece of work in this gallery. Welcome to my living room, kitchen, this is my roommate over here...and the backyard is my favorite! Oh, and don't worry about taking your shoes off. Welcome to my home."
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Frankie McCormick (they/them) is from Missoula and graduated with a BFA from the University of Montana. Frankie will always call Missoula home regardless of their status on a lease, wherever their belongings reside, or where they sleep at night. Their struggle to maintain housing in Missoula is not unique and would have resulted in houselessness on four separate occasions if it wasn't for the privilege of having a family and community support network here.
