The ZACC is thrilled to present new sculptural works by Melissa Thompson in our Blackfoot Communications Gallery for the month of December, opening First Friday, December 2 from 5 to 8 PM. Melissa recently received an MA in Prosthetic Effects from Falmouth University in Cornwall, England. She has been working with some fun materials that bring an added element of realism to her sculptures, helping to pull them into our world seemingly from a more mystical realm.

ABOUT MELISSA THOMPSON
“After graduating with a BFA in drawing from UM in 1996, I apprenticed for tattoo. I have been tattooing now for 21 years, and have been learning many other art mediums on my own in the meantime. One of my favorite mediums is felt, and my feltwork has absorbed lots of other mediums to become creatures. Keeping the feltwork as the anchor to my pieces allows each creature to be made from a variety of materials without loosing the common look of my work. I recently worked for and received my MA in Prosthetics from Falmouth University in Cornwall, England. I studied prosthetics in order to push my creatures further and myself further, and I am very excited to return to Montana with my new skills.”
