The Quiet Ruckus Octet is a genre-blurring jazz octet that aims to showcase many of Missoula’s finest improvising musicians in a dynamic and spontaneous little-big-band. As an eight-piece ensemble (five horns and rhythm section), the band captures the power of a big band, along with the intimacy and spontaneity of a small ensemble. The night will feature original music by bandleader/trombonist Mitchell Bailey, along with arrangements of music by Wayne Shorter, Alan Ferber, Chris Cornell and more. In the tradition of bands such as The Bad Plus, The John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble, we hope to both present original takes on classic works of the jazz cannon, as well as reinforce and celebrate the musical contributions of our time.
The Quiet Ruckus Octet is:
Mitchell Bailey — Trombone/Composition
Skyler Mendell — Trumpet
Lhanna Writesel — Alto Saxophone
Garret Waters — Tenor Saxophone
Michelle Sweeney — Bari Saxophone
Connor Racicot — Piano
Finn Caroll — Bass
Ed Stalling – Percussion
