Gallery Opening on January 10, 2020 from 5-8 PM. Show will hang in the Main Gallery through the month of January, 2020.

Featuring the work of Montana artist Laura Blue Palmer and her son Jesse Lewis Sawaya. Their oil and acrylic paintings of ocean life will be featured in a unique mother-son art show.

Laura Blue Palmer (43) lives in Missoula Montana where she works out of a downtown art studio and sells her oil paintings and merchandise. She studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute earning a BFA in 1999 before returning to the Big Sky state in 2000. Laura creates
ethereal atmospheric landscapes inspired by sunsets, skies, mountains, and water. Her artwork is memory-based and she seeks inspiration in her free time through sky watching, hiking, and spending time with her husband and two children.

Jesse Lewis Sawaya (9) has been creating art from the time he could walk and talk. He would build elaborate cities with blocks and also collect sticks, stones, and pinecones to make natural and curious visualizations. Jesse is now a 4th grader attending Target Range Elementary School
and he has a keen interest in art, history, music, and science. He is very curious about the ocean and its marine life, particularly cephalopods. Jesse learns a great deal about the natural world from his father who is an ecologist. Jesse has been a long-time frequenter of the ZACC and feels at home there creating amongst the family of amazing artists young and old.

“Underwater Past and Present” will showcase paintings and sculptures that depict a variety of ancient and contemporary ocean life. Laura’s innovative use of color and light translate well to her new aquatic landscapes while Jesse’s instinctual use of space and texture breathe life into his sea creatures.
