Classes for Youth

The ZACC loves getting our young artists involved and active in the arts at an early age. For families who need assistance with the costs for enrolling their youth know that we happily offer scholarships. Be familiar with our cancellation policies.

Monday, June 25, 2018 - 10:00am

In this camp, girls will build self-esteem through music exploration. Regardless of musical experience, campers will receive instrument instruction in drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and vocals. They will form a band, write an original song, and perform at Family Friendly Friday, June 29th, at the Top Hat Lounge. They will have the opportunity to learn song-writing, guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and keyboards while having musical freedom to create their own songs.

Monday, July 9, 2018 - 9:00am

 In this class we will meet at pre-designated location within Missoula to explore, collect and create on-site masterpieces, using pen and ink, watercolors, crayons and other mediums.

Monday, July 9, 2018 - 10:00am

 Another AMP band camp in which kids build confidence through musical exploration, this time with a country music twist. Regardless of musical experience, campers will receive instrument instruction in acoustic guitar, slide guitar, banjo, harmonica, keys, bass & drums. They will form a band, write an original country/folk song, and perform on July 13th at Western Cider. Campers will also put together country music outfits, screen print bandanas, and see intimate performances from local Americana musicians.

Monday, July 16, 2018 - 1:00pm

 In this camp, kids will explore the intricacies of color and its uses in historical and contemporary art and visual culture. Campers will investigate color theory, play and experiment with color in new ways and create acrylic and watercolor paintings in various styles. No artistic experience is required for this camp.

Monday, July 23, 2018 - 10:00am

Drop the beat and rhyme!  In this camp, students will learn about Hip-Hop history and culture, write an original song, and perform at Family Friendly Friday at the Top Hat Lounge on July 27th.

Monday, July 23, 2018 - 1:00pm

This class will investigate the craft of Bookmaking with extra pizazz! We will explore the importance of books in a historical context, as well as a vehicle for self-expression, and memory keeping. We will be doing a lot of tying, sewing, hole-punching, drawing, pasting, collecting, folding, cutting, and tearing. We will make a folded paper Accordion Book, A GIANT Cardboard Scrapbook, Binder Ring Book, and  a Pocket-sized Leather journal.

In this camp we will learn about our natural surroundings by creating artwork using only natural materials. Some work will be left behind to change and evolve while other work will come home with us! We will spend lots of time exploring the shallow waters, trails and dens of Greenough Park.

Monday, July 30, 2018 - 1:00pm

 Based on one of Missoula’s most popular events, expert story curator Marc Moss guides campers in selecting a story to share, building a story's three main elements and peer work-shopping. Campers learn how to share a story effectively and voice acting techniques to prepare them for their own youth Tell Us Something live event! Campers will select a theme for their Tell Us Something event, collaborate on an event flier and workshop their stories.

Monday, July 30, 2018 - 1:00pm

 In this functional pottery class you will learn to make bowls, platters, dishes, mugs, and other awesome hand-built pieces.  We will explore different techniques such as sgraffito, carving, and impressions.  In this class you will produce unique art that you can use or give as gifts.
