Wednesday, November 2, 2016 will mark the 24th year of the uniquely Missoula tradition—Festival of the Dead—an annual, all-inclusive multicultural event that honors life and death through community involvement in the arts. Inspired by the traditions of El Dia de los Muertos, the Festival includes a month of arts workshops, events, and performances, culminating in a traditional Day of the Dead processional down Higgins Avenue to Caras Park.
As a program of the Zootown Arts Community Center, the Missoula Festival of the Dead has a stronger presence year round, and a consistent home. As in years past, the ZACC will offer 5 free workshops, a group art show, and free facepainting prior to the event as part of the festival. These events are designed to engage the community more deeply in the meaning behind the parade and all of the events are open and welcoming of anyone who wants to participate. The Festival of the Dead is entirely community driven and we rely on your support, love, and commitment to the event to make it happen.
We invite you to show your support with a sponsorship of the event. The Festival of the Dead happily accepts smaller contributions and in-kind donations as well—everything helps!
We also need GRAVEDIGGERS—you know, the ones in the trenches doing the dirty work? Volunteer your time and recruit your friends and we will be happy to help you get some dirt under your fingernails!
Thank you for your help in keeping the Missoula Festival of the Dead alive and vibrant--it is such an amazing event that touches many lives. Your support of art and the community is greatly appreciated! Don’t hesitate to call with questions.
The Hospice Level: The Festival of the Dead’s mission is to provide a way of honoring life and death. As professionals in the field of encountering the delicate process of working through loss, we see Hospice in alignment with this mission. This level of a (tax deductible) donation of $3000 or more was inspired by Hospice of Missoula’s dedication to helping the ZACC provide therapeutic workshops to the community. Support at this level to make the biggest difference in the lives of Missoulians who are grieving. Hospice Level receives all the same benefits and praises as the Hero, Dreamer, & Fighter Level.
